Campbellford Memorial Hospital reaches target for new portable x-ray machine thanks to $10,000 donation from Economical Insurance in association with Newman, Oliver & McCarten Insurance Brokers Ltd.

CAMPBELLFORD, ON, May 30, 2017 – The 37-year-old portable x-ray machine used for bed-ridden patients in the Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) will be replaced thanks to a generous $10,000 donation from Economical Insurance, one of Canada’s leading providers of home, auto and business insurance. This is the fourth $10,000 donation that Economical has made to the CMH Foundation in recent years for new medical equipment.

The new portable x-ray machine for the Diagnostic Imaging Area of CMH will allow for faster treatment decisions for bed-ridden patients, especially in ICU and Emergency Department beds, and will assist in a more efficient examination workflow.

“Diagnostic Imaging is one of the most important areas in the hospital,” said John Russell, Executive Director of the CMH Foundation. “The current x-ray machine has served the hospital well, but it’s seeing the end of its days here at CMH. Our priority is to provide the highest quality patient care, and with Economical Insurance’s generous support, we are now able to continue offering modernized care to our patients.”

The Diagnostic Imaging Area is a critical health care service provided to CMH patients. Each year, thousands of patients from a wide catchment area come to the hospital for x-rays, ultrasounds, echocardiographs, bone mineral density testing, digital mammography, and C-T Scans. The new portable x-ray machine will provide CMH’s medical professionals with high-quality digital images that are to the current standard of diagnostics and treatment.

“Our diagnostic imaging capability is vital to the region. We serve patients throughout our catchment area across three counties including Hastings, Northumberland, and Peterborough,” added Russell. “CMH must provide outpatient diagnostic imaging services at no cost to patients. There is no additional government funding given to CMH regardless of the patient load.”
