(Montreal) – CEP congratulates Isabelle Murray on the success of her technical session at the 15th International Fire and Materials Conference, held in February 2017 in San Francisco, USA.
This event is a major international forum on fire performance of materials and the products into which they are made. The tree-day conference boasted over 80 papers presented by experts from 15 countries.
Ms. Murray presented the Case Study: Pyrophoric Iron Reactions in Refinery and Petroleum Industries. This paper investigated high precision metallurgical techniques that can be applied to detect the presence of iron sulphide from rust and confirm that pyrophoric reaction was related to the cause of the disaster.
With CEP for over 17 years, Ms. Murray, P.Eng., M.A.Sc., Metallurgist, is a Materials Forensic Engineer and the Assistant Director of CEP’s Montreal office. As part of her tasks within the Metallurgy and Materials Team, Ms. Murray carries out on-site technical investigations and case studies related to failure analysis, non-performance of materials, degradation, accidents, fires, explosions, and equipment failures. She also performs materials characterization (plastic, metals, composite and ceramics), laboratory tests and researches.
