While the planning and relief efforts continue to inch forward to get the 80,000 evacuees back into their communities, Fires have not yet all subsided. Fire marshalls continue to control several hot spots. As it stands, only those who are part of the disaster relief efforts are allowed access. Over the last weekend, The CRU Team has been focused on getting their field ops up and running. CRU has over 60 loss adjusters and 20 living trailers stationed in Lewyk camp ground just north of Fort McMurray. As the town is still without essential services, the challenge remains identifying unaffected areas where CRU adjuster teams can acquire provisions such as water, food and gas. Since authorities have reopened highway 63, the team was able to drive more than 1000km hauling travel trailers and supplies to their temporary camp located 20km north of Fort McMurray.
Our CRU claims adjusting teams are eager to attend to the urgent needs of the people who’s lives have been turned upside down. As with every catastrophe, the goal is to expedite the settlement process in order to give the evacuees their lives back as quickly as possible. When catastrophes of this magnitude take place, insurance professionals mostly focus on the material loss and affected infrastructures. Too often, we overlook the human element. As we continue with relief efforts in Fort McMurray, we will share our story from Camp CRU.
