Ian Portsmouth appointed Managing Director of Insurance Group after departure of Senior Publisher Steve Wilson

Ian Portsmouth has been appointed Managing Director of Newcom Business Media’s Insurance Group, effective Jan. 30. Portsmouth replaces Steve Wilson, who has left Canadian Underwriter magazine after 23 years of service.

The Insurance Group publishes Canadian Underwriter magazine and other insurance publications.

Portsmouth was previously Group Publisher, Business & Personal Finance at Rogers Media, where he oversaw Canadian Business, MoneySense and PROFIT.

“He will be a strong addition to Newcom’s management group and it’s my opinion that his experience with PROFIT and Canadian Business magazines will translate seamlessly to the insurance market,” said Joe Glionna, President of the Newcom Group of Companies.

Wilson joined Canadian Underwriter as Publisher in 1994 and is now Vice President and Senior Publisher at iQ Business Media, which publishes Canadian Architect, Canadian Interiors and Building magazines.

In addition to publishing Canadian Underwriter monthly, including the Annual Statistical Issue, Insurance Marketer and Ontario Insurance Directory, Wilson was instrumental in the development and launch of the group’s online presence and communications vehicles, including, among others: i-hire.ca, insPRESS.ca, insBlogs.com, CU80Years.com, inswire.ca and insNews.ca. He was also instrumental in the development and launch of Claims Canada magazine.
