Ontario Budget Announcement Pushes Insurance Brokerages To Go Digital

May 3, 2017   by Sharp Mobile Technology

Calgary, AB —May 3, 2017— The Ontario government recently announced plans requiring insurance companies to give policy holders discounts if they choose to receive their insurance documents electronically. This announcement has the potential to impact the insurance brokerage industry, as client expectations will shift towards digital services in order to benefit from additional discounts. The news may encourage many brokerages to make the digital shift or risk losing business to insurers who already have the capacity to support electronic delivery, immediately.

“We have been preparing for governments to fully support and encourage digital pink slips and e-docs,” said Ken Sedgewick, Director of Sales at Sharp Mobile Technology, adding “It’s been a long time coming for us and we couldn’t be more excited.”

Sharp Mobile was the first company in Canada to build and license digital tools specifically created for brokers. “We built these tools because we saw a growing need for more efficient customer service offerings.” Sedgewick goes on to say, “we’re here to support brokerages’ transition to digital in every way we can.”

The initiative set out by the Ontario Government may be the catalyst that triggers other provinces to follow suit. As digital pink cards are set to be accepted nationally in just a few months, provincial governments may put pressure on insurers to offer a similar incentive for their jurisdictions.
