Brokers still need to develop a much stronger Web presence, although there are signs they are starting to use online tools and resources more frequently, according to Bryan Yetman, president of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO).
Yetman made his remarks at the IBAO’s 90th annual convention in Niagara Falls on Oct. 20.
“From a technological standpoint, we are not where we need to be,” Yetman said in his speech at the IBAO annual general meeting. “However, I do believe there is a heightened awareness of the challenges we face and we often agree on the problem.”
Yetman listed a number of IBAO initiatives designed to get more brokers to engage the newer social media channels. These included blogs and the introduction in 2008 of the Web site myinsuranceshopper.ca, which has “served up over 80 million brand impressions of the BIP [Broker Identity Program] online,” he said.
