Bryan Yetman, vice president of operations for First Durham Insurance and Financial in Pickering, Ont., has been recognized for his commitment and excellence in broker education with the 2015 Dale Rempel Award of Excellence.

This is the second year the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) has presented the award – created and named for Dale Rempel, IBAC’s president from 2011 to 2012 – to recognize an individual who has made a significant difference in the professional development of insurance brokers.

Yetman (pictured below, left) was presented with the prestigious honour during IBAC’s President’s Banquet on Sept. 26 at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Québec City, where the association also held its 2015 Annual General Meeting.

Bryan Yetman (pictured, left), vice president of operations for First Durham Insurance and Financial in Pickering, Ont., has been recognized for his commitment and excellence in broker education with the 2015 Dale Rempel Award of Excellence.

“Yetman’s enthusiasm and commitment in taking on tasks to completion, and his ability to inspire an enjoyable atmosphere where brokers thrive are among the many qualities that set him apart from other industry volunteers,” notes a statement from IBAC, the national voice of property and casualty insurance brokers and an advocate for insurance consumers. “He is passionate about the independent broker channel and has a very strong desire to help others, especially young brokers, realize their potential through ongoing professional development,” the statement adds.

Yetman’s contribution to broker education has been considerable: co-facilitating a series of seminars, including Understanding the 21st Century Insurance Consumer and All Customers Are Not Created Equal; educating brokers and consumers on legislation detailing Ontario auto reforms; serving as a key leader in the development of the Young Brokers Council, initiatives related to which he remains active to this day; and continuing to facilitate several sessions for Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario, “where he is always eager to educate and share his expertise.”

In accepting the award, Yetman (pictured right) told assembled brokers and guests he was honoured to be recognized by his peers. But the honour was made even deeper since he knew Rempel.

Beyond being a successful broker, Rempel was a passionate believer in broker professional development. The award seeks to honour his commitment to the advancement and promotion of broker education.

“It gives us great pride to honour Dale’s memory and the difference he made to our professional development by recognizing and celebrating others who share his commitment and support of broker education,” says IBAC CEO Dan Danyluk.

Rodney Hancock, CEO of McFarlan Rowlands Insurance Brokers in London, Ontario, was the recipient of the inaugural Dale Rempel Award of Excellence.

An independent panel of judges representing the IBAC Board of Governors, practising brokers and the insurance industry press selected Yetman from nominations received from IBAC member associations.
