Honda Canada has issued a recall for about 30,000 Accord V6 models in the country after a power steering part problem that could potentially cause a fire.
The models included in the recall are those between 2003 and 2007. Exposure to high heat under the hood may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate, possibly causing a fluid leak, the company explained. A leak could lead to loss of power steering assistance, smoke and possibly a fire.
No fires, crashes or injuries have been reported in Canada, according to Honda.
The updated hose necessary for repairs won’t be available until early 2013, according to the company. Customers will receive a notification at that time and can have their power steering hose repaired for free at a Honda dealer location.
If customers suspect a problem in the meantime, the automaker is urging them to go to a Honda dealer to have their car inspected and repaired.
