WINNIPEG – The Manitoba government and its taxicab board are reviewing the industry in Winnipeg over the next six months.
The taxi review will examine the various classes of service, fare structures, customer satisfaction, safety and accessibility, new technologies and licensing requirements
Board spokesman Luc Lewandoski says it’s a business that has gone through a lot of dynamic change over the last few years.
The review will examine the various classes of service, fare structures, customer satisfaction, safety and accessibility, new technologies and licensing requirements.
It will start by analyzing the current models, as well as researching the best practices in regulating taxicabs.
After that, the public, businesses and those working in the industry will be asked for their input.
The review will also be looking at other North American cities that have ridesharing services such as Uber to see how they are dealing with them.
“We’re confident this review will fairly assess that we are correct, that you need to have insured and licensed drivers that are doing ride-for-hire,” says Lewandoski.
