GAINSBOROUGH, SASK. – A Saskatchewan village that suffered flooding from a massive dump of rain earlier this summer is again trying to dry out after another bout of wet weather.
Gainsborough, in the southeastern corner of the province, had to deal with a downpour in late June that flooded streets and basements.
The community of 300 was hit by another 50 millimetres of rain on the weekend, but Mayor Vic Huish says apart from stress on the sewer system there were no major problems.
Huish says residents have been left wondering when the storms will cease so they can finish their flood repairs, but notes that the weather can’t be stopped.
Gainsborough is still without drinking water after the June storm.
Some residents are living in campers because they can’t move back into their flood-damaged homes.
