SCM Insurance Services has launched Xpera, the brand it is now using for its risk and investigation services.

SCM – which was providing investigative services under the Forensic Investigations Canada (FIC) name – acquired the property and casualty businesses of Granite Global Solutions in August, 2014. Granite’s operations at the time included CKR Global, which also provides risk and investigation services.

Xpera “is a result of the merger” between FIC and CKR Global, SCM stated Monday in a release.

SCM Insurance Services’ Forensic Investigations Canada (FIC) and CKR Global are now operating under the Xpera brand. Its services include investigations for insurance companies.

“As part of the SCM group of companies, Xpera will operate as a distinct entity, remaining committed to FIC and CKR Global’s focus of risk mitigation and investigation,” SCM stated. “Staffing will be unchanged, functioning under the new name and brand, Xpera.”

Xpera’s investigation services include surveillance, video documentation of loss scenes, witness interviews, location of individuals, accident investigations, subrogation & recovery and location of assets and income. Its risk services include executive security assessments, event protection services, technical surveillance countermeasure surveys, high-risk termination services and kidnap and ransom services.

Other Granite Global Solutions operations acquired by SCM include Granite Claims, Granite Health Solutions (whose services include medical assessments) and Rochon Engineering.

Rochon is now known as Pario Engineering and Environmental Sciences, SCM announced Jan. 22.

Cira Medical Services and Granite Health Solutions operate as distinct brands. Granite Health Solutions operates under the brands of Sibley & Associates, Total Rehabilitation Management (TRM) and Multi Disciplinary Assessment Centre (MDAC).

Pario’s services include accident reconstruction, fire and explosion investigation, mould investigation and remediation, contaminated site remediation and hazardous materials identification and management, among others. It also offers prevention and post-fall assessments for slips, trips and falls.

SCM had been operating ClaimsPro and CIRA Medical Services prior to the Granite transaction.

ClaimsPro president Bob Fitzgerald was recently named chief executive officer of SCM, replacing Larry Shumka, who is now executive chairman.
