Following on its “safe driver recognition program”, Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) is planning to offer discounts to its commercial clients.
SGI predicts that during the first year of the program, about $2.8 million in policy discounts based on safe driving records will be given to 70,000 business owners. In fact, more than 96% of businesses will qualify for a discount, says Mark Wartman, Minister Responsible for SGI.
The discounts will run up to 5%, but some policyholders may also face premium increases based on bad driving records or a number of claims.
The aim of the program was to benefit small and large businesses alike with discounts similar to those offered on personal policies under the safe driver program. In December 2003, SGI boosted the maximum discount rate for personal policies to 9% from 8%.
For businesses with small fleets of two to three vehicles, discounts will be modest at $10-$216 SGI says this is because most of these businesses already pay lower premiums.
