Talanx industrial lines insurer now operating under a new name: HDI Global SE

The industrial lines insurer within the Talanx Group is operating under the name HDI Global SE, HDI said in a press release on Friday.

The announced renaming of HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG was successfully completed on Jan. 8, HDI Global, which has a new website, said. The conversion to an SE (Societas Europaea, or European joint-stock company) had previously been approved by the competent supervisory authority.

“The renaming is an important milestone in our more than 100-year history,” said Dr. Christian Hinsch, deputy chairman of the board of management of Talanx AG and chief executive officer of HDI Global SE, in the release. “Our new name reflects the increasingly international profile of our business. Today we are already generating almost 60% of our premium in foreign markets – and the trend is rising.”

Effective immediately, the company is operating worldwide under the HDI brand. Most primary insurance entities of the Talanx Group in Germany and abroad already use this brand, the release added.

Klaus Navarrete, managing director of HDI in Canada, said that the rebranding as HDI will help the company broaden its scope in our local market. “The new name HDI Global SE is considerably easier to use for our Canadian customers than the former name. Furthermore, the legal status of an SE reflects our company’s international alignment much better than the previous legal form of a German public limited company.”

The Canadian website and the legal name change in Canada will be implemented in the first quarter pending regulatory approval, the release added.

The industrial lines insurer now trading as HDI Global SE has increasingly evolved in recent years into a global provider of industrial lines solutions, with operations in more than 130 companies, the release said, adding that HDI Global SE handles more than 3,000 international insurance programmes worldwide. The premium volume booked by the division in the 2014 financial year totalled roughly 4 billion euros.
