MPI increases vehicle safety inspection fee by $10

A government-authorized vehicle safety inspection will increase by $10, Manitoba Public Insurance announced.
The cost of a vehicle safety inspection will be $55 as of Aug. 1, 2010. The increase applies to safety inspections for cars, motorcycles and light trucks.
"This is the first increase in nine years," said Ward Keith, MPI's registrar of motor vehicles. "Over the last decade, some costs of doing an inspection have gone up. The increase is meant to help cover the costs incurred by the inspection station operator. As before, some inspection stations may charge less than the maximum."
The safety inspection does not include a detailed inspection of the engine or transmission and is not a guarantee of the overall quality of the vehicle, an MPI release says.
