Flood Risk Canada, Inc. (FRC) has announced that it will be launching a new flood risk monitoring and prevention tool called “flood sensory system.”
Deployed in floodways, the system monitors and alerts on the current water level activity, wind speed and velocity action in a specific location, Oakville, Ont.-based FRC explained in a press release issued Wednesday.
In particular, the system monitors streams and rivers, measuring wave action, tides, currents, stream levels, streamflow data, groundwater levels, the amount of rainfall, dam failure and wind speed. It allows property owners to access the data online from any location and monitor it live, setting alerts for when the flood barrier deployment is needed, FRC said.
“We are excited to finally be able to have this extremely effective and cost-efficient flood defence tool, allowing for the fastest possible response to a flood event in the United States and Canada, making it a great addition to our already extensive flood defence services portfolio,” said Steve Gill, CEO of FRC, in the release.
Gill added that timely and accurate information on a property’s flood risk is the “first step to keeping property owners and insurers free from liability and disruptions caused by flood-related damages. Then it is our job to make sure Canada is safe from flooding, having a proactive emergency preparedness team to deploy innovative flood barriers in a moments-notice, and use other highly effective flood defense techniques to help mitigate the risk of flooding.”
Late last month, FRC announced the availability of a new digital platform that sought to provide “accurate and fast flood zone determinations for the properties in Canada,” Canadian Underwriter reported at the time. With the launch of www.floodzone.ca, users can receive accurate flood zone determinations within 24 hours and the platform shows if a property is located in a high, moderate or low risk flood zone.
FRC is a flood risk management company offering effective flood risk assessment, prevention and mitigation solutions to commercial property owners and managers, financial institutions, insurance companies, golf courses, railway industries and other enterprises throughout Canada. The company focuses on true flood risk exposure, uninsured losses and liability.
