AIG names CEO for post-Brexit European division

Copyright: 123RF.com / Iuliia KvashaThomas Lillelund has been appointed CEO of AIG Europe SA, the new legal entity established by AIG to provide business continuity for the company’s European operations following the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union.

Lillelund most recently served as CEO of Aspen Re. He has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, and previously worked for AIG as the company’s regional vice-president in Southeast Asia.

In his new role, Lillelund will be responsible for Continental Europe and Ireland. He will report to Chris Townsend, AIG’s CEO, International General Insurance.

“I’m delighted to welcome Thomas back to AIG as CEO of our European business,” Townsend said in a news release. “Thomas is a well-respected international insurance executive who is a strategic leader with experience growing and building teams.”

Anthony Baldwin, who is currently the CEO of AIG Europe Limited, will become CEO of AIG’s new U.K. entity, American International Group UK Limited. He will continue to report to Townsend.
