Allianz Group Corporate & Specialty announced on Thursday that it has promoted David Warfel to the role of head of aviation for the company’s North American arm.
Warfel was previously head of major risks for aviation at Allianz for more than five years. He takes over from Mike Hansen, who was promoted to global head of aviation earlier this year.
In his new role, Warfel is charged with leading the aviation business in the region and developing and executing on the regional strategy. He will report directly to John Barnwell, regional head of specialty lines for North America, with a matrix reporting line to Hansen.
Warfel has nearly two decades of aviation insurance experience with a background in general aviation, product liability and airline underwriting. Before joining Allianz, Warfel held various underwriting and management positions at AIG and United States Aircraft Insurance Group, the latter of which offers specialized insurance for the airline industry. Warfel is a graduate of the Institute of Aviation at the University of Illinois and is a licensed commercial pilot.
