Copyright: 123RF.com / George TsartsianidisJanuary was an eventful month for the P&C industry, with a big announcement from one of Canada’s largest insurers taking centre stage.

The first month of 2018 also saw a major milestone for digital pink slips, and we took a closer look at how brokers can adapt to shifting consumer expectations.

Here’s a look back at what got people’s attention in January:

1. Greg Somerville to step down as president and CEO of Aviva Canada

Somerville will become a non-executive director of the company effective March 1.

2.  Intact, Aviva and Desjardins continue to outpace the rest of the industry: MSA Research

M&A helped the three insurers pull away from the rest of Canada’s P&C pack.

3. Nova Scotia becomes first province to approve digital pink slips

Will other provinces follow suit?

4. Is it time for the industry to rethink its approach to personal lines?

Consumers want the same experience from insurers that they get from Amazon or Uber.

5. Gore Mutual announces executive appointments

The insurer has a new vice-president of underwriting and chief marketing and distribution officer.
