CCIR urges jurisdictions across Canada to approve EPAI

Photo copyright: Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) is calling for electronic proof of automobile insurance (EPAI) to be made available across Canada.

The association has been working on efforts to make EPAI a reality for several years. It has identified privacy and liability concerns as being among the biggest roadblocks to implementing EPAI.

“We encourage regulators in jurisdictions where these concerns exist to work with their respective partners to address operational matters, with the aim of implementing EPAI,” CCIR chair Patrick Dery said in a news release.

In January, Nova Scotia became the first jurisdiction in Canada to approve the use of EPAI.
