British Columbia’s public auto insurer will play a major role in the province’s latest anti-fraud efforts. The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) will issue new, security-enhanced drivers licences and registrations introduced last week by the province’s solicitor general. The new licences-and accompanying I.D. cards-are made with materials that are harder to copy, and include holographic anti-theft features and facial recognition technology that will allow the insurer to compare the face on a license with its own database of photos. ICBC, which issued more than 1 million licences and I.D. cards last year, will begin distribution in early March.
