The head of General Motors of Canada says Ontario is strategically important in the company’s plans to create safe, driverless vehicles in the near future.
CEO Steve Carlisle says the province has a strong foothold in advanced technologies that will be an important part of GM’s business.
He spoke at the launch of a new software centre in Markham, north of Toronto, which the company describes as the largest automotive innovation hub in the country.
GM also plans to open a “mobility campus” in Toronto to complement other research centres it has in Oshawa, Kapuskasing and Kitchener-Waterloo.
