Copyright: 123RF.com / kantverSurex Direct has been ranked 22nd in the 30th annual Growth 500 list, which ranks businesses based on revenue growth over a five-year period.

Surex Direct has grown its revenue by more than 8,000% over the past five years, and currently has a book of business worth more than $62 million in annual insurance premiums. The digital brokerage ranked first overall in Alberta for growth.

‘’Being nimble has been essential to our growth,’’ Matthew Alston, co-founder & COO of Surex Direct, said in a news release. ‘’We focus on short-term strategies and goals, which allows us to continually innovate, evaluate and ensure we’re able to embrace change and stay a step ahead of our competition.’’

Based in Magrath, Alta., Surex Direct started out offering personal lines coverage in Alberta only, but now does business in six provinces and two territories.

‘’Being headquartered in a town of 2,300 people, we embraced the David vs. Goliath mentality,” said Lance Miller, co-founder and CEO of Surex Direct. “We put an emphasis on technology, including developing our own machine learning and artificial intelligence initiatives. This is how we’re able to offer the best insurance proposition in Canada, while being in a rural community.”

The Growth 500 list is produced by Canadian Business and Maclean’s.
