Recent legalized recreational use of cannabis in Canada is anticipated to increase litigation involving cannabis, with or without alcohol.  This presentation will compare scientific aspects of cannabis and alcohol and provide some related considerations for legal counsel in litigating social or commercial host liability cases.

This presentation will discuss the well-defined statutory duty of care that bars, restaurants, taverns and party halls must meet to defend a commercial host liability lawsuit pursuant to the Liquor License Act, its regulations and at common law.
