Insurance Institute of Ontario- Driving competition: A special presentation on auto insurance regulation in Ontario

by Insurance Institute of Ontario
September 10, 2019
18 King St. East, 16th floor, Toronto, ON, M5C 1C4

Concerned about the future of auto insurance in Ontario? Join us in-person for a special presentation on auto insurance regulation by Tim Bzowey, Executive Vice President – Auto Insurance Products from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA).

There are arguably fewer areas of insurance that are subject to as much regulation, review and scrutiny as the auto insurance marketplace, particularly here in Ontario. Many calls for reform from the industry, consumers and the government led to the establishment of a new regulator: FSRA.

In June, FSRA took over responsibilities that were previously carried out by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), including regulation of insurance rates and standard auto policies.

“[FSRA’s] mandate is to be open—open to new ideas, open to business and open to consumer needs. FSRA has the flexibility to cut red tape, bring products to the market quicker and be more responsive to the needs of businesses,” said then-Finance Minister Vic Fideli on June 7.

Don’t miss this special presentation, where you’ll learn first-hand what FSRA has planned for the auto insurance marketplace. Have questions for Tim? Once you register, you can send questions to us in advance and we’ll pass them on for him to answer as appropriate.

About Tim Bzowey: Tim Bzowey is an innovative, strategic senior leader with extensive global expertise and experience in the insurance, wealth management and banking industries, who has an aptitude for consumer and industry engagement and collaboration. He joined FSRA from his most recent position as Senior Vice President, RBC Partnership, Aviva. Widely recognized for his ability to unite and inspire high performing teams, Tim will provide thought leadership and oversight for the regulation and supervision of FSRA’s insurance industry products, including auto insurance rates and products, to protect the interests of consumers while supporting industry evolution and innovation.
