Cannabis in Canada : How did we get here and where are we going?

Canada is about to do what no other G7 or even G20 country in the world has done: Legalizing cannabis for adult use recreational consumption at the federal level. As we rapidly approach this fundamental policy shift and end the 100 year prohibition on the plant, there are still a considerable amount of questions and concerns about how cannabis will migrate from the streets to the stores.

In this engaging session, we’ll hear from Will Stewart, one of the leading voices in Canada’s public policy landscape on cannabis. This discussion will take place mere weeks after the federal government’s legalization date of October 17, 2018, and will begin by discussing how we’ve arrived at this point. The conversation will provide an update on the legal cannabis situation in the early days—as the world watches what happens, before discussing what the future may hold. Legal cannabis is a disruptor to many traditional Canadian businesses, but Canada’s cannabis sector will itself be disrupted in a few short months as more products, licenses, and formats also become legal.
