Seminar: Dispelling the Myths of DCPD

by Insurance Institute of Nova Scotia
March 07, 2019

For many, DCPD is the most misunderstood section of the auto insurance policy. Join us for a Back to Basics discussion with a panel of experts: a Broker, an Underwriter and an Adjuster. Applying the rules of DCPD isn’t always as simple as we may think. Hear about the challenges that our panel members face in answering questions from customers, rating policies and settling claims. This is an interactive session created for those of us in the Industry who are faced with challenging questions or scenarios involving DCPD, but aren’t really sure how to answer.

DCPD (Direct Compensation Property Damage) is the law. It applies to automobile with Fault Determination Rules that are intended to simplify complex liability situations. Because this is an interactive panel discussion, you will walk away with perspectives from different stakeholders, interesting real-life examples of how DCPD works, and perhaps answers to questions that you have had, but weren’t sure who to ask. Just like our work in our everyday lives, we don’t always have all of the answers and sometimes, we aren’t even sure that we have the questions. We will be discussing situations that fall outside of the standard everyday situations and from this, you will be able to answer questions with confidence about how DCPD impacts your customers, brokers, insureds and colleagues. You will have the opportunity to learn about DCPD from different roles within the Industry and understand the impact on premiums, loss settlements and profitability impacts. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions that you have about DCPD. Together – we will Dispel the Myths!
