1 Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE (AGCS) announced in May that Ulrich Kadow [1] has been appointed chief agent for AGCS Canada. Kadow was previously AGCS’s global head of package and multi-line, “where he established the mid-market property, liability and engineering business in Canada, Asia, South Africa, Australia and Denmark,” notes a company statement. Based in Toronto, he will report to Arthur Moossmann, president and chief executive officer of AGCS North America. Kadow has an MBA from New York City’s Columbia Business School and an MS in computer science from Technische Universität München, the company adds.

2 Shaun Johnston [2] is now chief operating officer of BMS Canada Risk Services Ltd., and will report to Brian Gomes, chief executive officer of the company. Johnston is a former executive with Aon plc in Vancouver. “During his time at Aon, Shaun led a team of 20 specialists and grew a leading broking portfolio, providing risk management services, national and cross-border insurance program design and management to some of western Canada’s largest and most diversified construction and property development companies,” notes a statement from BMS Canada.

3 Jardine Lloyd Thompson Canada Inc. plans to open a new regional office in Halifax, with Peter Campbell [3] serving as branch manager. With more than 20 years of experience, Campbell has worked as a marketing specialist and client manager at Marsh Canada and as a senior broker at Aon Canada. The Halifax office will initially focus on construction, healthcare, life sciences and real estate, and will also support JLT Canada’s public sector practice.

4 Sylvie Paquette [4], president and chief operating officer of Desjardins General Insurance Group Inc., was recently elected as chair of the Board of Directors for Insurance Bureau of Canada. Paquette holds a degree in actuarial science and is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society. In addition, Kenn Lalonde, executive vice president of insurance for TD Bank Group and president and chief executive officer of TD Insurance, is the IBC board’s new deputy chair.

5 Michael Wright [5] was recently named vice president of information technology for Opta Information Intelligence. Wright last served as senior vice president of operations at Brovada Technologies Inc. Opta Information Intelligence reports Wright’s “leadership and sales acumen make him ideal” for his new position.

6 Pario Engineering and Environmental Sciences has appointed Mark Samis [6] as vice president of environmental services. Samis joined Pario Engineering, formerly known as Rochon Engineering, two years ago. He has experience in subrogation support, spill response, site assessments, site remediation planning and design, water supply investigations and environmental impact assessments for land development.

7 Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc. reports several of the courses delivered by its corporate learning and development centre are accredited by the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario. The offerings “consist of technical courses that cover a range of insurance-related topics from general casualty to homeowner’s liability and dispute resolution, as well as courses tailored to the professional development of soft skills and management.”

8 Justin Sharp [8a] is the new president and chief operating officer of FirstOnSite Restoration. In his most recent role at SNC-Lavalin Operations & Maintenance Inc., Sharp “was responsible for driving growth and providing overall leadership and executive management for domestic and international businesses, including real estate management services, project delivery solutions and facilities management services,” FirstOnSite notes. Also at FirstOnSite Restoration, John Stephenson [8b] has been named senior vice president, commercial accounts, and Nathan Belcher [8c] has been appointed vice president of information technology. Stephenson has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the property management and disaster recovery field. With 20-plus years of IT experience, Belcher has played a major role in the development and design of the company’s customer management programs and proprietary software systems.

9 Roar Engineering is open for business. Its co-chief executive officers, Michael Rochon [9a] and Vincent Rochon [9b], have more than 50 years of combined experience investigating forensic incidents. They previously served as co-CEOs of Rochon Engineering. Roar Engineering’s services include accident reconstruction, fire investigations and environmental remediation.

10 SCM Insurance Services Inc.’s Opta Information Intelligence unit has announced the availability of its Commercial Peril Score, a product designed to identify commercial properties more at risk for claims frequency and severity by geo-coded address. It is also meant to augment current information and processes employed by insurers to help them more effectively underwrite and rate properties by providing a better understanding of the risk as it relates to losses.

11 Georgiana Chen [11] is a new national account manager for Xpera Risk Mitigation & Investigation. Chen will provide customers with “comprehensive strategies and solutions to help mitigate existing and potential risk.” She has previously worked at ProFormance Group Inc., SCM, CGI Group Inc. and Underwriters Adjustment Bureau.

12 Aviva Canada has announced it is a national corporate partner of the Canadian Red Cross’ “Ready When the Time Comes” program, committing more than $500,000 to the partnership over the next three years. As part of the program, the Red Cross trains employees to provide assistance after natural disasters, including floods, house fires and forest fires, tornadoes and extreme weather conditions.
