With the departure of American Re CEO Edward J. Noonan, John Phelan (pictured) is set to take over the top spot at Munich Re’s U.S. subsidiary, effective March 31. Phelan has been with Munich Re of Canada (MROC) for almost 30 years, and has been the company’s president as well as president of Temple Insurance Company and chief agent for Munich Re’s non-life business in Canada. He is succeeded by Kenneth Irvin, a 20-year MROC veteran and most recently performing the CFO functions.

ACE Limited has named Philip V. Bancroft to succeed Christopher Marshall as the company’s CFO. Marshall will step into the new role of executive assistant to ACE CEO Brian Duperreault. Bancroft comes from PriceWaterhouse Coopers, where he was partner-in-charge of its New York insurance practice.

CARSTAR Automotive Canada announces the appointment of Jim Bethune as CFO of the collision repair chain. He was most recently senior vice president of a large automotive aftermarket retail organization and was chair of the Mohawk College board of governors.

Swiss Reinsurance Company Canada has appointed assistant vice president Glenn McGillivray as corporate secretary, effective January 1. He replaces Norma Cooper, who retired from the company at the end of 2001. McGillivray retains the role of head of corporate communication.

Technology vendor Solcorp has named Gordon Sutherland as CFO for its worldwide operations. He has worked in financial services and technology companies for more than 20 years, including as CFO of Financial Models Company, Canadian Satellite Communications and Johnson & Higgins.
