On Thursday, May 24, 2012 over 100 Insurance professionals and Alberta CARSTAR Franchise Partners attended CARSTAR’s Spirit of an Olympian Charity Event at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta. Canadian Olympic Gold Medalist, Jon Montgomery, delighted attendees with his inspirational story and a photo opportunity with one of Canada’s gold medalists.

Over $3,000 was raised at the event for Cystic Fibrosis Canada in preparation for CARSTAR’s ninth annual Soaps It Up National Car Wash Fundraiser taking place on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at participating CARSTAR locations across Canada. Over the past ten years, CARSTAR has raised over $1.9 million in funds for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and hopes to reach their $2 million mark in 2012.

With 2012 being an Olympic year, there was added excitement of hearing Jon Montgomery speak about innovation and realism.  While explaining how we must be realistic about the things in life we can’t change, Jon encouraged attendees to focus on ways in which we can optimize ourselves and our situations through creative thinking and innovation.

“Partner events are key factors in contributing to the ongoing growth and longevity of our relationships,” said Andrew Faulds, Regional Manager – Alberta at CARSTAR. “Hosting interesting and exciting events like our Spirit of an Olympian event displays our commitment to remaining best in class in the automotive collision industry.”

Montgomery qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver based on his results in the 2009 Skeleton World Cup. In the 2010 Olympic event, Montgomery placed first overall and accepted his gold medal at the medal ceremony in Whistler on February 20, 2010. Montgomery became the second Canadian in a row to win gold in the men’s event, after Duff Gibson in 2006, and the first Canadian to win a gold medal in Whistler at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
