Quick Action Key to Ensuring Quality Document Restoration Results

June 4, 2013   by STRONE-Itech

The more that can be done early, including freezing, the better chance of quality document restoration results.

Now in its fourth year of operation, STRONE’s document recovery facility in Oakville, Ontario is providing recovery and restoration solutions for clients throughout Canada and the United States.

Under the leadership of Division Manager Stan Emerson, the STRONE team provides a high level of support with mitigation, document pack out, stabilization, and restoration when documents are impacted by elements in a fire or flood event. When a business, institution, document storage facility, or even residence experiences fire or flood damage, Emerson offers important advice to mitigate potential document damage.

“Water damaged documents and media are very time sensitive,” states Emerson. “When safe to do so, remove items from the flooded area then blot excess amounts of water from the documents and media immediately.” Emerson goes on to note that it is key to sort affected documents based on importance. If unsure or more time is needed to deal with the loss, Emerson offers his most valuable tip – freeze damaged documents!   “Freezing will arrest further deterioration of the documents,” explains Emerson.

“This allows time to deal with the loss and time to assess what documents to restore, discard, etc.  Our team’s goal when on site is to pack out damaged documents as quickly and safely as possible so we can get them back to our secure facility and frozen. The more our customers can do to speed this process up, including freezing, the better our restoration results will be.”

Stan Emerson originally joined STRONE after compiling a wealth of experience in humidity control technology with his previous employer – providing indoor climate solutions and document recovery. He has completed Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certifications (IICRC) in Water Damage Restoration Technician, Applied Structural Drying Technician, Applied Microbial Remediation Technician, Fire & Smoke Restoration Technician, and Health & Safety Technician.
