St. Baldrick’s Shave to Save Event March 10th

February 24, 2011   by Canadian Underwriter magazine

The 2011 St Baldrick’s event which is scheduled to take place on Thursday March 10th at the Duke of Westminster Pub (First Canadian Place) from 2.30pm onwards. Started in 2000 by three reinsurance executives in US who turned their annual St Patrick’s Day party into a fundraising event.  They asked 17 of their friends to raise money by shaving their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer.  They raised over $100,000.  There are now several St Baldrick’s events worldwide.  This will be the fourth event in Canada.  All the money raised stays in Canada and goes to Childhood Cancer Canada who have partnered with St Baldrick’s.  Childhood Cancer Canada then distribute the funds raised through the C17 research network (C17 is a committee of all the heads of the sixteen pediatric hematology, oncology, and stem cell transplantprograms across Canada. They represent the interests of children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders and act as an authoritative Canadian voice).

With participants from Travellers Canada, Beach & Associates, Marsh Canada, Swiss Re Canada and Liberty amongst others the event will be fun-filled and for a great cause.

Location: Duke of Westminster Pub, 77 Adelaide Street First Canadian Place

Time: 2:30
