Success of CSIO’s Cybersecurity eLearning Program Paves Way for Future Courses

January 23, 2019   by CSIO (Centre for Study of Insurance Operations)

TORONTO, ON, JAN. 23, 2019/insPRESS/ Just two months after the launch of its new eLearning program, CSIO has received tremendous response with over 450 registered users. The program’s first course on cybersecurity was designed in response to broker feedback requesting more educational resources to better prepare them for cybersecurity threats.

With one in five Canadian businesses having reported a breach in 2017, the demand for cybersecurity education has been growing among brokers. Based on responses to CSIO’s member survey, and the popularity of past webinars, CSIO launched the cybersecurity course in December.

CSIO encourages members to register for the eLearning program if they have not already done so. Users can expect to complete three modules within the cybersecurity course on mobile device security, the risks of social media sharing and general awareness of the threat landscape. The course is accredited for continuing education hours in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

Two New Courses for 2019

With the success of the eLearning Program, CSIO is adding new courses in 2019 that will continue to educate brokers on critical digital skills and knowledge. The next eLearning courses will focus on digital marketing and emerging technology.

Along with the existing series of accredited webinars, these new courses aim to help members sift through all the noise to really understand what they need to know to increase their digital competencies.

“After completing the eLearning cybersecurity modules, I was very impressed,” says Trevor Sodergren, President of Broker Age General Insurance, Grande Prairie Alberta. “The modules supplied our staff with relevant information and kept them engaged with interactive examples and exams that allowed for the simulation of real-life scenarios.”

“One of the most important ways we can support the industry is to help brokers expand their digital skill set,” says Catherine Smola, President & CEO of CSIO. “The eLearning program is an opportunity to expand on our established webinar series, to provide brokers with valuable knowledge in a convenient, interactive format. We know that brokers are busy and need training that fits within their schedules: our accredited eLearning program builds brokers’ confidence that they have the digital skills and expertise that customers expect.”
