Congratulations to the STRONE-Itech Movember team, raising $1525 in 2013

Team STRONE-Itech – the joint team of STRONE and Itech employees – has completed a successful second year of Movember. This dedicated group of 14 crushed its $1000 goal, collecting a total of $1525 in generous pledges.

While joining Movember for the fun of it in 2012, 2013 had a different feel for the STRONE-Itech team. Many members have been closely affected by Prostate and Testicular Cancers, diseases that the Movember movement is closely attached to.

Take Karen Prince, STRONE Bracebridge’s Office Administrator. Karen joined as a Mo Sista, along with co-worker Mary Carter. Her motivation to participate was an emotional one – for her late husband Gord who passed away in June 2013 from Prostate Cancer. Aside from raising money for the cause, Karen was most dedicated to raising awareness, encouraging men to get tested early.

At Itech Electronics Restoration’s office in Markham, Michael DaSilva joined the Movember team as a Cancer survivor and in memory of his father. “I had cancer when I was 14 years old and beat it, but my father wasn’t so lucky fighting Liver and Prostate Cancer 2 years ago.”

Stephen Coombs, Director of Sales and Customer Service for STRONE joined the Movember cause for the first time, and made a huge impact on the team. Stephen was top fundraiser, collected $495 in very gracious donations.  “My face certainly wasn’t designed to grow a mo….however I am honoured to participate, and endure all well-deserved needling, in loving memory of my amazing Father-in-Law, Charles Edwin Prosser,” explained Stephen. “Dad Prosser bravely fought prostate cancer with the strength, grace and dignity of a Godly Man’s-Man! I grow this Mo for Ed, and the promotion of men’s health awareness!”

Congratulations to the 2013 STRONE-Itech Movember team members: Stephen Coombs, Wayne Siderius, Ross Barrett, Karen Prince, Mary Carter, Mark Finlay, Mario Orellana, Michael DaSilva, Mark Augustine, Fernando Coloma, Mike Durnford, Stefan Popkevich, Brent Richard, and Rob Symons.

As the team closes out another year, the emotional connection to the cause will certainly be remembered by this group. That connection and dedication to doing good will bring them back next year. Look for the STRONE-Itech team in Movember 2014. They’ll be bigger, better, and hairier than ever!
