The CIP Society Ontario Council Announces the 2009 Fellow of Distinction Award Recipient for the GTA

The CIP Society Ontario Council, a division of the Insurance Institute of Ontario, announced today that Carla Blackmore, FCIP, CRM, retired director, commercial programs with Zurich Canada, has been selected by the nomination review committee as the 2009 recipient of the Greater Toronto Area Fellow of Distinction Award.

This award was created to recognize outstanding achievement in the insurance industry in Toronto. Colleagues nominate insurance professionals for The Fellow of Distinction Award, which is presented annually to a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP).

In making this announcement, Heather Masterson, FCIP, chair of the CIP Society Ontario Council said, Carla is well known in the insurance industry and an extremely valuable contributor to the work of the Institute and the community at large. Her professionalism and commitment make her a very deserving recipient of this award.

Carla worked at Zurich for over 30 years in a number of different capacities underwriting, branch and unit management, sales and marketing, and programs. Carla was constantly finding ways to enhance the reputation of Zurich Canada, and over the years, she has managed staff, mentored numerous individuals, and developed excellent relationships not only with the brokerage community but also with people at other insurers, claims adjusting firms, reinsurers, wholesalers and customers.

Outside of Zurich, Carla is also heavily involved with the Insurance Institute both in the areas of teaching and furthering its reputation, most recently as the chair of the CIP Society – Ontario Council. She is also well known for her charity work, having been a director of Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade Ontario since 2001, and a co-chair of the Starlight Insurance Gala since 2007. Through her contributions of personal time and management skills, some $6.4 million dollars have been raised for charity.

Carla Blackmores 2009 Fellow of Distinction Award will be presented at The CIP Society Ontario Councils Annual Fellows Reception at the National Club on January 14, 2010.
