AIG unit insured waste plant struck by fire

A unit of American International Group Inc. issued The Environmental Quality Co. a pollution liability policy with a US$28 million aggregate limit along with other coverages to the operator of a hazardous material facility, which recently burned and forced thousands of residents near Raleigh, N.C. to evacuate.
American International Specialty Lines underwrote the pollution policy, which also provides limits of US$24 million for each claim. An EQ Holding Co. certificate shows the coverage for this policy is available from August 2005 to August 2008.
The Environmental Quality Co. manages, packs and transports a variety of chemical waste products, which may have released toxic fumes during the fire.
In addition to the aforementioned coverage, placed by Willis of Michigan Inc. (a unit of Willis Group Holdings Ltd.), the Company has a commercial general liability policy from Commerce & Industry Insurance Co. (a unit of AIG) with a US$1 million limit for each occurrence and a US$2 million general aggregate. In addition, the Company purchased excess liability on an occurrence policy form from American International Specialty Lines, which provides US$10 million per occurrence with a US$10 million aggregate.
Lexington Insurance Co. (a unit of AIG) has also issued the Company with an excess umbrella policy with US$15 million in aggregate limits and for each occurrence.
