Alberta police Long Weekend crackdown results in 3,743 charges, including hundreds of violations for driving without insurance

Alberta sheriffs and RCMP laid 3,743 charges across the province during the September long weekend, with the second-most frequent violation being driving without insurance or while suspended.
Police laid 2,834 speeding violations, as well as 55 hazardous driving violations such as careless driving and stunting.
They also discovered 459 violations ranging from having no insurance to driving while suspended.
With Alberta’s distracted driving law newly in place, police laid 29 charges related to distracted driving violations. Among them, police discovered a driver in Fort McMurray talking on a cell phone with one hand and holding an ice cream cup with the other while reversing out of a parking stall.
