Archway Insurance has entered 2014 with several new acquisitions in Halifax.

Effective Jan. 3, the Amherst, N.S.-based brokerage purchased MacLaren Hebb and Faulkner Insurance, both of Halifax. Archway had previously announced the purchase of Basin Insurance, also of Halifax, effective Jan. 1.

“We are thrilled to be adding the MacLaren Hebb and Faulkner offices to Archway Insurance,” Archway regional manager Gina McFetridge commented in a statement on the recent deal.

“The Hebb family has been in the insurance business since the 1850s. There is a long-standing history of service and commitment to clients and the local community that is completely in step with our own values.”

Former owner David Hebb will be staying on, and both offices will remain in their current locations, Archway noted.

“My great-grandfather started a marine insurance business in Lunenburg which got the insurance blood running in our family,” he commented in Archway’s announcement.

“With five generations now having worked in insurance, I am glad to be turning control over to another family-run business that will continue our tradition of serving customers as an independently owned, local insurance brokerage.

I am going to be staying on, and with all our staff remaining, the only change our customers will notice over time is a new name and access an even wider selection of rates and services through Archway’s expanded network, which includes most of Canada’s leading insurers.”

Archway now has 12 locations across Atlantic Canada. In the past decade, the brokerage has purchased 17 other firms in Atlantic Canada.
