Macdonald Chisholm Trask (MCT) Insurance, which has 18 offices in Atlantic Canada, announced Tuesday it will join BrokerLink.

MCT, which specializes in personal, commercial, marine, special risks and program insurance, will continue to operate its offices under its current name.

The BrokerLink companies, which include Canada BrokerLink Inc., Canada Brokerlink (Ontario) Inc. and Canada Brokerlink Financial Inc., are subsidiaries of Intact Financial Corp. BrokerLink has 84 offices in Canada.

Late last year, BrokerLink added three eastern Ontario brokerages — Barrhaven-based Baizana Insurance Brokers, Orleans-based Pentagon Insurance Brokers and Cornwall-based Lalonde Insurance Brokers — to its network.

MCT has offices in 16 Nova Scotia communities: Barrington, Bedford, Berwick, Bridgewater, Canning, Fall River, Kentville, Liverpool, Middleton, New Glasgow, Pubnico, Sheet Harbour, Shelburne, Truro, Wolfville and Yarmouth. Its other two offices are in Moncton, N.B. and St. John’s Nfld.

Last March, MCT purchased Homburg Insurance Company Ltd., which operated in Halifax and Truro, N.S.  under the name C.D. Armstrong Insurance.

The terms of the BrokerLink transaction with MCT was not disclosed.

“BrokerLink is a strong and growing organization,” stated MCT president and CEO Michael Brien, who is joining BrokerLink as its head of operations for Atlantic Canada. “Together we will have the resources to maintain our significant presence in Atlantic Canada, provide great career opportunities for our staff, and deliver an exceptional customer experience through our network of local offices.”

BrokerLink’s personal coverages include auto, home, identity theft, home business, condominium and tenants. Its business coverages include general liability, property, auto and industry-specific policies, such as construction, hospitality, transportation and oil and gas.
