Benfield Corporate Risk, the corporate insurance and risk intermediary catering for the complex risk management and transfer needs of the corporate sector worldwide, has announced the opening of a Canadian office in Calgary.
Incorporated Jan. 19, Benfield Corporate Risk’s Canadian operations will be managed by Richard Cutfield.
Cutfield has more than 25 years of experience in the insurance market and was formerly managing partner of Jones Brown Inc. At Jones Brown, he carried responsibility for financial institutions and income trusts accounts, including energy exploration and production customers.
The new Canadian operation will initially focus on the development of specialty business in the marine, energy, power and mining sectors. Canada’s growing position in world energy and mining markets makes Western Canada an important region in need of specialty risk advice and products, the company noted in a press release.
“We are delighted to announce our expansion into Canada,” Chief John Lapsley said. “We see a significant opportunity to develop our market-leading broking and risk advisory services in this market. Richard’s wealth of experience in the insurance market, coupled with our analytical resources, enables us to bring a fresh proposition to meet the needs of corporate risk professionals in the Canadian market.”
Benfield Corporate Risk Canada has been incorporated locally and will be licensed in Alberta and other provinces in due course to carry out insurance broking and advisory services.
The new Calgary operation will work along side Benfield Corporate Risk’s other offices, which operate out of Houston, New York, London, Singapore, Seoul, Bermuda, Perth, Washington, DC, and Paris.
