Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance announced Monday it is offering claims-made liability coverage in Canada for professionals facing allegations of negligence, misleading statements and breach of duty, among other things.

Professional First Miscellaneous Professional Liability from Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance will cover professionals from allegations of unintentional breach of contract, among others

The coverage – dubbed Professional First Miscellaneous Professional Liability – will cover professionals and professional firms, says Boston-based Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, which announced its entry into the Canadian market in January, 2015.

Professional First MPL is intended to cover clients “facing allegations of negligent acts, errors or omissions, misstatements, misleading statements, neglect, breach of duty and unintentional breach of contract,” BHSI stated Jan. 11 in a release.

“The MPL policy includes the following supplemental payment coverages with no retention: coverage for pre-claim assistance, reimbursement of loss of earnings and reimbursement of expenses for policyholder attendance at litigation and disciplinary proceedings.”

BHSI is part of the primary insurance part of Omaha, Neb.-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc., whose chairman is Warren Buffet.

BHSI’s other commercial coverages include property, casualty and surety. Berkshire Hathaway’s other insurance companies include National Indemnity Company, direct auto writer Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) and General Re.

In Canada, BHSI underwrites on the paper of National Liability & Fire Insurance Company.
