In the white paper, CSIO describes SEO as “the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic” to a website from search engines.

CSIO, which is comprised of property and casualty insurers, brokers and technology vendors, oversees development, implementation and maintenance of technology standards (such as eDocs) and forms for the industry.

In its white paper on SEO, CSIO suggested brokers should minimize duplicate content and develop mobile versions of their websites.

“With its algorithm update in April 2015, Google will begin to penalize websites that are not optimized for display on mobile devices,” CSIO stated. “As a result, non-mobile websites will likely not display on the first page of most Google searches.” [click image below to enlarge]

CSIO also warned that different brokers might describe auto insurance using almost the same wording, and GooglE “could consider this to be duplicate content, which can have a negative impact on a website’s search ranking.”

CSIO’s video material on SEO is divided into four parts. Part 1, What is SEO? provides an overview. Part 2, Content Creation for SEO, “offers advice for blogs, videos and other media,” CSIO stated. Part 3 includes tips and tricks for SEO – on web design and the use of key words – while Part 4 provides information on Google Analytics.

“Having a social media presence of some kind will greatly help your SEO efforts,” CSIO stated in the white paper, referring to sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. “This doesn’t mean you have to be on ten different social networks – focusing your attention on the strategic use of just one platform can be enough to improve SEO.”
