Dalton Timmis Insurance Group Inc. of Hamilton announced Tuesday it has acquired Mainway Hunter Creighton Insurance Brokers.

Dalton Timmis is one of eight Canadian brokerages that made Finnacord Ltd.'s list of the world's top 150 brokers

“The firm will continue to specialize in transportation, commercial and specialty lines, personal home and automobile insurance across Canada,” Dalton Timmis stated in a press release. “The transaction will be effective April 30th, 2015 when it has been officially closed.”

Dalton Timmis is one of eight Canadian brokerages that made Finnacord Ltd.’s list of the world’s top 150 brokers, by an estimate of commercial non-life broking revenues in 2013. Brian Timmis is listed, by the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO), as its principal broker. It was formed in 1997 with the amalgamation of Dalton Insurance Company and Saunders and Timmis Insurance Company.

With the Mainway Hunter Creighton acquisition “the organization’s Ontario offices will be located in Ancaster, Burlington, Mississauga, Stoney Creek and Midland, with Alberta offices situated in Calgary and Edmonton,” Dalton Timmis stated in a release.

The acquisition will increase the size of the brokerage to “in excess of” $150 million written premiums, with 145 employees, the company added.

Mainway was founded in Burlington in 1975. In 1977, Dominic Albanese – listed by RIBO as Mainway’s principal broker as of April 29, 2015 – became a shareholder. In 1997, Mainway acquired Hunter Insurance Brokers and McArter Douglas Insurance.

“I am very happy for my staff and will be on board for a couple of years to watch them transition into the Dalton Timmis team,” Albanese stated in a release.
