Energi of Canada Ltd. has launched a property and casualty program for energy construction that seeks to provide contractors in a number of related segments with risk management solutions and insurance coverage.

The new program will first be offered in Ontario and will expand to other provinces in the coming months

The new program will first be offered in Ontario, and will expand to other provinces in the coming months, notes a statement Tuesday from Massachusetts-based Energi, which has numerous regional branch and support offices, including one in Toronto, and provides risk management and insurance solutions to more than 1,000 energy companies in the United States and Canada.

The company reports that the program is designed for the following:

• water/sewer and excavation contractors;

• cable, TV, telephone and power line contractors;

• water/test well and geothermal contractors, electrical contractors;

• heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing contractors;

• gasoline station service contractors;

• renewable energy contractors;

• oilfield services contractors; and

• energy savings contractors.

“As in the U.S., Energi’s program in Canada will be offered only to companies who exhibit a commitment to loss prevention and who implement industry best practices,” reports the company.

“We are very excited to begin offering this coverage program in Canada,” Lilli Chiu, vice president of loss prevention and safety for Energi of Canada, a subsidiary and the international program arm of Energi, notes in the statement.

“This program is designed to encourage best practices, mitigate risk and help protect companies in the energy construction industry,” Chiu says, adding that “we believe it will add great value to new and existing clients in Canada.”

Energi previously launched the company’s Fuel Distribution and Fuel Transportation insurance coverage in Canada. Energi of Canada also offers Alternative Energy Solutions programs that deliver protections for alternative energy and energy efficiency projects.

“We hope to continue our international growth and, eventually, offer our full coverage line to clients throughout North America,” says Tony Passarelli, Energi of Canada’s vice president of distribution.
