First General names new head of central and eastern Ontario offices

First General, a North American restoration network with operations across Canada, has appointed Dan Burns to be the regional director of its central and eastern Ontario offices.

First General has more than 80 general locations in Canada and the United States. Each location is independently owned and operated.

A licensed all-lines adjuster, Burns will lead and support the central and eastern Ontario offices in servicing insurer-based business, broker-driven and private corporate client programs. He will also play a critical role in plans to expand its Greater Toronto Area (GTA) network.

Burns has been in the industry for more than 20 years. He has worked previously as a supervisor, senior account manager, manager of computer operations, branch manager and vice president of a national third-party administrator (TPA).

“I am excited and energized to begin another phase in my career with First General,” Burns said of his appointment. “I am drawn to the company’s core values and business vision.”

Among other things, First General accesses specialized equipment, project managers and technicians from across North America to respond to a catastrophic (CAT) events. The corporate large-loss program assists property managers, universities, government and private industry during times of major disasters.

Burns’s credentials include a Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation and a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation. He is a member of the Ontario Independent Insurance Adjusters’ Association, the Canadian Independent Insurance Adjusters’ Association and the Insurance Institute of Ontario.
