TORONTO – Numerous streets were closed and portions of two main highways were shut down in the Burlington, Ont. area Monday due to a deluge of rain.

The Weather Network reports the southwest Ontario city received about 125 millimetres of rain – or nearly two months worth – in one day.

As a result, sections of Highway 407 and the Queen Elizabeth Way were shut down and several roads and basements were flooded.

Halton Region police say there were no injuries, but the rainfall created numerous traffic issues throughout the Burlington area.

Police were asking people to limit their travel on the roads for the time being, and if they had to venture out, to exercise due caution and drive safely.
