The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) is warning consumers that an individual who goes by the name Sally Brown is not licensed to do insurance business in Ontario.

Sally Brown claimed to sell auto insurance on behalf of Zurich Insurance Company and asked consumers to pay premiums in cash, FSCO said.

Zurich has confirmed that it is not affiliated or associated with Brown. The following phone number has been used in relation to this scam: 1-888-915-4430. Consumers should exercise caution if they are asked to contact someone at this number about purchasing insurance, FSCO said.

This scam appears to be related to a similar involving individuals claiming to sell insurance on behalf of Zenith Insurance Company. In that case, Lisa Rossi and Sam Soso, who are not licensed to do insurance business in the province, directed consumers to pay premiums in cash and in person to an individual named “Jack.”

FSCO’s website contains a list of all insurance companies and agents licensed to do business in Ontario as well as tips on avoiding auto insurance sales scams.
