The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) has posted a warning to consumers that Antoinette Gail Freeman is not licensed to do insurance business in the province, as well as a notice of an auto insurance-related scam.
FSCO says the woman is misrepresenting herself as an insurance agent / broker to consumers.
The commission is pointing consumers to the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO)’s website, which contains a list of all brokers licensed to do business in the province.
FSCO also warned that an individual is claiming to sell auto insurance on behalf of DMW Insurance Ltd. and contacting victims via Blackberry Messenger (BBM), providing them with a phone number and/or email address to call for cheap insurance.
DMW Insurance Ltd., a legitimate brokerage registered by the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario, has confirmed with FSCO that it is not affiliated or associated with the individual.
The email addresses dmwinsurance@live.ca and dmwinsurancelimited@live.caand the phone numbers (647) 719-4161, (416)-529-1424, (647) 837-3586 are associated with the scam. Victims were directed to pay their auto insurance premium via an email money transfer service, FSCO says.
