Honda Canada has advised its customers of a data breach involving the unauthorized access of 2009 records, including names, addresses, Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) and, “in a small number of cases,” Honda Financial Services (HFS) account numbers.
The breach has reportedly affected approximately 280,000 Canadian customers. The information was related to a series of customer mail programs in 2009 that encouraged customers to register at the myHonda Web site.
“The information that was potentially accessed does not include the kinds of data typically used for identity theft or fraud such as birth dates, telephone numbers, email addresses, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, driver’s license numbers, social insurance numbers or dollar amounts of HFS financing or payments,” Honda Canada said in a statement posted online.
