Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has congratulated Liberal Party of Ontario Premier-elect Dalton McGuinty and all new and re-elected MPPs for their election victories.
Led by McGuinty, the Liberals won a minority government in the province’s Oct. 6 elections.
Heading into the election, the Liberal government had implemented auto insurance reforms in September 2010 and struck an Auto Insurance Anti-Fraud Taskforce earlier this year.
IBC has advocated for measures to address the underlying factors that contribute to insurance fraud. These include strict regulations to oversee the ownership and operation of medical clinics in Ontario, combined with tougher criminal and civil penalties related to identity fraud and theft.
“IBC will continue to work with government and other stakeholders to ensure the reforms continue to be implemented and closely monitored,” an IBC release says. “Insurers are working diligently to protect honest policyholders from the costs of fraud and abuse of the system.”
