ICLR policy director, Gordon McBean, to receive the Order of Canada

The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR)’s director of policy, Gordon McBean, will be awarded the Order of Canada on Apr. 7.
The Order of Canada is the country’s highest honour, recognizing “a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.”
The official release from the Office of the Governor General states: “Gordon
McBean’s contributions in atmospheric and climate sciences have enhanced
Canada’s stature on the world stage.
An academic and former senior civil servant, he has advanced the knowledge of climate change through his research and leadership in scientific organizations and research
networks.”
McBean chaired the International Scientific Committee for the World Climate Research Program, and was involved in the creation of the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences.
McBean is a professor of political science and geography at the University of Western Ontario.
McBean is the second ICLR staffer to receive the Order of Canada.
Alan Davenport, ICLR’s former director of research up to his passing in July 2009, received the Order of Canada in 2002.
